History Night Book Club: The Wager In-Person
The American250 Book Discussion is now History Night Book Club!
Join us on August 17 as we discuss The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder by David Grann.
On January 28, 1742, a ramshackle vessel washed up on the coast of Brazil. Inside were thirty men. They were survivors of the Wager, a British vessel chasing a Spanish galleon known as "the prize of all the oceans." It had wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of Patagonia. After being marooned for months they built a flimsy craft and sailed for more than a hundred days. They were greeted as heroes. But then ... six months later, three castaways had a very different story to tell. As accusations of treachery and murder flew, a court martial would determine who was telling the truth.
